The fall travel season is almost here! Because I generally avoid peak summer travel, I am so ready to get out and start my adventures by the time the fall shoulder season rolls around. All that lead time can be a little dangerous (for me) because I tend to over book when I get bored. But, the good news is that I have time to properly plan all the details, and part of that is taking stock of my gear and purchasing a few new things.
I’m really excited about some of the new travel accessories that I’ve found. Once you have your essentials, a few discretionary purchases can really elevate your travel style — even if you don’t have tickets in First Class. I’ve put together an edited list of my favorites that are a “little extra,” but still serve a practical purpose.
Cosmetic Bags
This is an easy one because cosmetic and toiletry bags always seem to get worn out before anything else. Or, perhaps you’re like me and still throw stuff in a ziploc bag.
This tortoise travel organizer by Stephanie Johnson has three removable compartments so you can keep your skincare, makeup, and hygiene items separate. I do this anyways, but I love that this ensemble is matching and that it all nests together compactly. Also, the material can be wiped down if it gets dirty or wet.
Passport Holder
There is something about pulling out a nice travel wallet or passport holder that makes me feel chic and polished.
This gorgeous leather passport holder by Strathberry has their signature Music Bar hardware, perfect stitching, and plenty of room for travel documents and receipts. I love its quiet luxury appeal.
Bag Charms
I’m no fashion expert, but bag charms seem to be having a moment, and I’m on board with anything that adds a little femininity to my otherwise boring travel bags.
This floral key fob by Kate Spade will clip on to my crossbody bag for just a little flourish. Chances are, I’ll buy a couple different ones because it is a really nice way to add personality and tie together an outfit.
Pillow Case
I know I’m not the only one who travels with their own pillowcase. It is 100% worth the tiny bit of packing space to travel with my own and have that creature comfort with me wherever I am staying.
These mulberry silk pillowcases by Blissy come in an array of colors so you can match your bedding at home or your mood. I love that these are hypoallergenic and can be machine washed and dried without any hassle. Convenience is everything!
Cashmere Joggers
Speaking of creature comforts, a pair of comfortable travel joggers is essential. But, cashmere joggers are in a different class.
These off-duty cashmere joggers by Naadam feel great when you are trying to sleep on a long-haul flight, but look great when you are checking into your 5-star hotel — or can’t change right away. I bought a pair a couple years ago and I’m going in for another color and the matching hoodie;)
Hair Care
If you don’t want to travel with all of your styling products and tools, a good way around the frizz challenge is premium hair care products formulated to smooth and tame.
This travel trio by Philip Kingsley is a dream, especially if you have curls or texture. If you are new to the brand, this set is also a great intro to the line.
Noise Cancelling Headphones
These noise cancelling headphones by Sony are truly the best. Not only are they super comfortable, but the battery life is actually long enough to last for an entire international flight, layovers, and long delays. They also re-charge super fast and fold up compactly, which also makes them perfect for on-the-go. They also come in a few colors — the midnight blue is also very pretty!
Fragrance
When are you ever in closer proximity with strangers than when traveling? Besides, personal fragrance can also be aromatherapy for stressful days.
Fragrance is such a personal choice. But, whatever you choose, travel sizes are a great way to try something new or indulge yourself with a high end designer. I’ve been traveling with the Twilly d’Hermès Eau de Parfum Travel Spray lately and I’m obsessed.
Crossbody Straps
I’ve had the need to add crossbody straps to my favorite handbags so I can be hands-free for practical reasons. I’m so glad that there are actually stylish choices.
This wood beaded crossbody strap by Ossa is perfect for my phone and is extra security so I don’t accidentally lose it in an Uber (speaking from experience).
I’m also looking at swapping out some of my chain straps with adjustable woven bag straps that are a bit more durable for travel.
Luggage
There is no better travel investment than good luggage. Having something that is easy to manage and will hold up to the abuse of getting knocked around is so important.
That being said, I am cautious about buying designer pieces that would leave me in tears if ever ruined. Hence, my favorite luggage brand is TravelPro.
This Maxlite Air V2 by Travelpro is part of their newest collection. I love the slate green – more interesting than black, but still classic.
